Accuracy is a process, not a one-time event. When a published story needs to change, we change it openly. This policy explains how.

How corrections are made
When we learn that a published story contains an error of fact, we correct it promptly. Substantive corrections are made to the article itself so the record readers see is the accurate one.
Readers can report a suspected error at any time by contacting the newsroom; every report is reviewed.
- Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed.
- The correction is made in the body of the story, not buried elsewhere.
- Where an error was material, we note what was corrected.
Timestamping updates
News stories evolve. Each story records both its original publication date and its last-updated date, and both are shown on the article and reflected in the story's structured data.
When a developing story is updated with new information, the updated timestamp reflects the change so readers always know how current the reporting is.
Transparency when articles are modified
We distinguish between routine updates that add new developments to a running story and corrections that fix an error. Material corrections are made transparently rather than silently, so trust in the record is preserved.
We do not un-publish stories to hide mistakes; we correct them.
